
The main exhibition focuses on 'Community - with me, with you, with us' and it features 27 artists from 18 different countries with 51 newly presented artworks made especially for the International Prize of GICB 2013.
The International Competition which took place 6 times since 2001, changed to the main exhibition International Invitational Competition. The transition is a means to establish a more amicable competition between Korean and international artists at the same time as viewing the developments in contemporary ceramics to suggest new critical discussions and issues.

The special exhibition HOT Rookies for the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2013 (GICB 2013) features 87 artworks by
20 artists from 8 different countries including the Republic of Korea, Turkey, the United States of America, Germany, France,
Spain and Switzerland. For this Place a new method of open participation was implemented by introducing an international online
program for artists to apply.
Under the theme of <Paradoxical Aesthetics> the overall structure of the exhibition intends intercontextuality featuring 20 different solo exhibitions.
The special exhibition HOT Rookies showcases artworks based on the <Paradoxical Aesthetics> of young and promising artists in a period where
our psyche, culture and society is becoming fragmented and commodified. It is an opportunity to reflect on our current society and appearance
in correlation to the phenomenon of our time.

Traditional Chinese white porcelain from Jingdezhen and traditional Korean white porcelain from Gwangju and Yanggu are presented to show the essence of traditional ceramics of China and Korea.
The Korea Ceramic Foundation cooperated with the Korea Rehabilitation Foundation to co-host the 8th National Ceramic Competition for the Disabled, by organizing an exhibition of awarding winning pieces. There are 71 artworks on display showing the experiences and emotions of disabled ceramics community.
This is a valuable exhibition looking into the current circumstances of ceramic activities pursued by disabled people, while providing a space for communication and understanding.
Through this clay can be approached as a socially healing medium enabling disabilities to recover while awakening naturalness inside people. By supporting the artistic endeavors of the disabled community, implementing a better social welfare system is initiated through culture.
This year’s guest country, Norway, introduces up-and-coming craft artists and their works and builds new paradigms through examining the various issues surrounding the contemporary crafts scene and sharing bright and promising ideas.

This competition was designed to discover a new horizon for art, where ceramics is mixed with other media. It will further uncover new markets for functional and sculptural ceramics and also create a value-added market for ceramics.
The exhibition invites 43 artists to work on the theme of sharing by proposing ideas for “gifts.” With a café as its venue, the exhibition also showcases various lightings, coffee cups, accessories, daily goods and shares the value of gifting and hand-made works.

In conjunction with the theme for the GICB 2013, 'Community', we are holding a special feature exhibition presenting the video work of Artist Teri Frame (currently Associate Professor, University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, Department of Ceramics).
GICB 2013 is pleased to showcase the Third Act of 'Prehuman, Post-human, Inhuman' for this occasion. The video depicts transitions in the physical body, a hybrid human. This performing art series was made by applying clay modification and other 'technical devices'.
There are Six Acts in the entire piece with different titles for each, 'Simians', 'Early Humans', 'Hybrids', 'Proportions', 'Race', and 'Posthumans'. Teri Frame depicts transitions in our physical body evolved through time and she combines art with science.
