KICB Residency Program

New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum

New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum makes active efforts in the collection and research of Taiwan ceramic culture, this includes the ceramics industry, ceramic practice and the common culture. We organize permanent exhibitions, themed exhibitions, and international competitions/exhibitions. In the meantime, the museum accepts the applications for exhibitions from local and international ceramic artists or groups, and frequently holds international workshops and seminars as well as educational events, publications and digital museums in hope to display the richness of Taiwan ceramic culture, enhancing both local and international cultural exchange.

In partnership with the Korea Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF), Yingge Ceramics Museum offers a Korean artists among artists selected at the International Competition of KICB2019 an opportunity to participate in its residency program.

Taiwan Ceramics Biennale (International)

Now in its 8th edition, the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale was first held in 2004. Under the globalization trend of multi-cultural exchange, Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, one of the most important biennales in the world, will continue to strengthen the concept of "local culture and face the world", reduce lack of link between the exhibits and local art culture. As the bridge connecting Taiwan and the world, the biennale has three aims, including providing a platform for ceramic talents and lovers, collecting distinctive artworks with unique visions and ideas, and presenting the status quo of ceramic art development around the globe. Over the years, it has not only cemented Taiwan’s position in international contemporary ceramic art but also brought Yingge to become one major global ceramic art hub.

Exhibition Applications

The New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum accepts local and foreign ceramic artists or groups apply for exhibitions for encouraging ceramics practice and enhance the design level of the ceramic industry.
The exhibition application will be posted on our official website, please apply according to application process. Our application opens during the first half of the year.

Special Exhibitions

Special exhibitions are held at the main gallery of Yingge Ceramics Museum annually. We curate exhibition with different themes that aspire to open a new visions.

Taiwan Ceramics Awards

This competition has two award categories, one which is the Achievement Award that is established to honor the individual who made great contribution to the ceramic field, the other is the Creative Award, which is encourage the ceramic practice development in Taiwan.

Regular Artist-in-Residence

International Residency Program at YCM starts in 2011. The building in the shape of Hoffman Kiln is utilized as an international artist residency center. It provides different kinds of equipment and facilities, such as electric kiln, colored glaze and working space, and one technician and several assistances for ceramicists with financial and museum staff support will ensure artists that they devote into their works thoroughly.
The establishment of the residency program is to encourage ceramic artists, both local and global, to come and experience the life in a pottery town through a short-term residency.

  • Duration : Up to 3 months residency, four time slots are provided for artists to choose from (January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December). Application is opened until July 12, 2019.
  • Paid by Host : Round-trip travel subsidies, daily stipend, basic studio materials needed, a shared apartment and a semi-open studio space.
  • Paid by Artist : Additional personal expenses, like visa, extra material fee, local travel expenses.

Residency Types
  • Annual Residency : Opened for all international and domestic ceramic artists to apply annually.
  • Biennale Residency : This residency is provide to artists who have won the Grand, Gold and Silver prizewinners from our Taiwan Ceramics Biennale are provided with the opportunity to participate in the Residency Program along with participating in an additional exhibition after their residency.
  • Self-Support Residency : Artists can personally send applications to rent working space.
  • International Exchange Residency : The Yingge Ceramics Museum provides opportunity for local artists to do exchange projects with various international institutes, providing an international platform for ceramic artists to advance their professional practice.

① Registration only. Please register before your residency. The museum has the right to arrange the final firing schedule and have the final decision.
② Fuel fee is compensated by material fee given by museum. Additional cost must be paid by artists.
③ Please recover usage area and return tools and equipment back to museum.

Accommodation Information

The apartment is one of the households in a building. This includes living room, kitchen, laundry room, and balconies. There’re one studio room and two rooms sharing one bathroom. Essential items like tables, closets, bed sets, hair dryers, washing machines and laundry dryer are available. The house accommodates up to 3 artists at the same time.
